Gail Zik 75, most recently of Southbury, CT and formerly of Yorktown Hgts., NY. Born August 16, 1945, Bronx, New York passed away September 22, 2020. She is survived by her husband Howard, daughter Michelle Ellyn and son Matthew Ira. She is also the grandmother six grandchildren Penina April, Miranda Serena, Alyonna, Flora, Jacob and Taliya. Gail graduated Hunter College with a BA in Mathematics in 1964 and a Masters in 1966 with a license to teach in the New York City school system. She taught Junior HS and Middle School mathematics and science with distinction and great success into the early seventies. She was known for her creative approaches and rapport with students, some of which were from dysfunctional families and whose personal and professional lives were constructively influenced by her and kept in touch with her over the succeeding years. She later taught on a substitute basis within the Yorktown Heights Westchester school system. She was also active in the Yorktown Jewish Center Sisterhood for a number of years utilizing her organizational and math skills. She was family oriented and known for her endless compassion, humor and Jewish motherly instincts and no family event was complete without her. Although born in this country she was close to her European mother and whose Jewish European experiences and values she was able to pass on to her 6 grandchildren granting them a larger enriching identity . She will always be remembered in our hearts and saddened by an irreplaceable loss. Her memories and teachings will however survive her and endure. Graveside Services will take place at Sharon Gardens Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. on Thursday, Sept.24, 2020 at 11 AM.
