Gabriel Misarti, 96, formerly of Lewes, Delaware, passed away on Friday, January 22, at Bentley Commons at Paragon Village in Hackettstown, NJ.
Gabriel was born on December 1, 1919, to Teresa and Paul Misarti in Sant'Onofrio, Italy. He came to this country as a young boy and grew up in White Plains with his 5 brothers. Gabriel, a gifted violinist, studied at the Julliard School of Music before entering the Air Force in WWII. He met his beloved wife, Anne (Shani), while stationed in England, and they were married on October 18, 1944. Gabriel and Shani raised their two sons in Yonkers, NY, before moving to Westport, CT.
Gabriel was a high school Spanish and Italian teacher in New York City. He and Shani's love of travel took them to many countries around the world. In retirement, Gabriel remained very active performing with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, serving as president of the Westport Wise Men, and doing volunteer work in the community.
His lifelong passion for music was only surpassed by his devotion to family. The consummate gentleman, his kind and peaceful manner defined him and will long be remembered. No matter what the problem, Gabriel was always there for his family -- ready and willing to help.
Gabriel was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shani, in 2007, and four brothers, Ralph, Louis, Paul and Frank. A caring and cherished father, grandfather, great grandfather (Nono), and brother, Gabriel is survived by his sons, Adrian, Roland and his wife, Carol; his grandchildren, Gabriel and his wife, Julie, Nicole, James and his wife, Karen, Douglas and his wife, Alicia, Gregory and his wife, Nell, and Yvonne Misarti; six great grandchildren; his brother, Roland, and many nieces and nephews.
