Obituary

Very Rev. Fr. Ezhamalil I Eapen, 79, of Hartsdale, N.Y. went to his eternal home on February 9, 2022. He was born on March 8, 1942.

Fr. Eapen was born in Neelimangalam, Kottayam. He graduated with his Masters in Economics from Nirmala College, Muvattupezha. While in India, he was secretary to the late His Beatitude Aboon Mor Baselious Paolouse II for 10 years.

In September 1971, he came to the United States and received his Masters in Theology from Princeton University in New Jersey. He then furthered his education and received a Masters in Economics at Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey.

Fr. Eapen spent his life in the church, serving his congregation. He was ordained as a deacon at 18 years and entered the priesthood in 1985. His ministry spanned 61 years. During his tenure in the diocese, he was the Archdiocese Secretary of North America for four years.

He was a loving family man, who not only provided support and guidance to his immediate family but also his extended family. He was also an avid gardener and cook. His pizza parties were legendary. He was a devout Yankees fan since the 1970s and was rarely seen without a Yankees cap.

Fr. Eapen is survived by his wife, Mary Eapen; children, Emily Beeson, Siby Phillips, Abraham Eapen, their spouses Ryan Beeson, Vinu Phillips, Jessica Eapen, and his grandchildren, Abigail Phillips, Noah Eapen, Hannah Eapen, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezhamalil I Eapen, Saramma Eapen, his brothers, Eapen Iype, Eapen Varghese, Eapen Mani, and Eapen Chacko, and his sister Mariamma Kurian.

Wake Services at Valhalla United Methodist Church, Valhalla, N.Y. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 from 3:00-8:00 PM. Where Religious Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y.
