Frederick J. Gill

Frederick J. Gill, a longtime resident of Thornwood, NY, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025; at the age of 94 years old. He was born on July 11, 1930, in New York, NY, son of the late Richard & Augusta 'Madeline' (nee Zobel) Gill.

On August 9, 1948, he enlisted proudly in the United States Army and served in the reserves during the Korean Conflict; he received his honorable discharge on October 26, 1953.

On April 20, 1952, in the parish rectory of Church of the Sacred Heart, he married Margaret C. Nella, who predeceased him after 62 years of marriage on July 15, 2014.

Fred had a successful career in advertising. In 1955, he joined DKG as a mechanical artist, left from 1960-1973 to work for Robert A. Becker as Studio Manager, and then returned to DKG, later renamed Calet, Hirsch, Kurnit & Spector, as Bullpen Manager, later becoming Vice President. He retired in 1993 and dedicated his time to being an active grandparent; spending time with family and friends with his wife; and pursuing his hobbies, including the routine completion of The New York Times Crossword Puzzles.

Frederick is survived by his daughter Kathy Gill-Charest and her husband Danny, and his son Robert Gill and his wife Helen. He is also survived by his three grandchildren: Mike Charest (Ashley Hoblin), Michelle Charest and Freddy Gill (Jakki); and his three four-legged grandchildren too, Max, Tyrion and Fiora.

His Family will gather with Friends on Friday, May 9th from 3-7PM at the HAWTHORNE FUNERAL HOME, 21 W. Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York, where a celebration of life will be held 12 Noon on Saturday, May 10th followed by interment and military honors at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.
