Fred Herman Fischer, a resident of Roswell, GA, formerly of Ossining, NY and New Paltz, NY, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in his home at The Georgian Lakeside Assisted Living facility at the age of 88. He was born in New York, NY on June 27, 1936, son of the late Herman Paul & Pauline (nee Gruber) Fischer and little brother to his beloved sister Rose Fischer Strom.

On September 26, 1959, he married the love of his life, Josephine Anne Rerecich, who predeceased him after 31 years of marriage.

Fred's enthusiasm for improving the landscape started while playing in the sandbox as a child, eventually leading to a bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering from the City College of New York. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Pace University. After serving in the US Army, Fred spent his career working as a civil engineer for the New York State Thruway Authority, reaching the position of Division Director.

During his retirement, Fred continued his passion for outdoor projects on his large property in upstate New York where he was always building a bridge, "filling in a low spot," or maintaining a trail. He was also an avid, self-taught investor and spent many hours watching the markets and picking his next stock. In his later years, nothing was more valuable to him than a visit or a phone call from one of his family members.

Fred is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law: Jeffrey H. Fischer and his wife Nancy, Curtis A. Fischer and his wife Marie Lucca, and Drew E. Fischer and his wife Celeste. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Matthew, Christine, Bradford, Joanna, Sophie, and Catherine, and his many nieces and nephews who will never forget their Uncle Fred.

A Celebration of Fred's Life will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM at the Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, New York.
