Frantz Gouraige, Jr. was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on June 29, 1941. He was the son of Frantz Gouraige, Sr. and Emilie Duroseau. In 1960, he joined his father, step-mother Alta, and older sister Marie-Helene in the United States.
On June 26, 1966 Frantz, Jr. married Marlene Charles and had 2 children, Regine & Philip. They lived in Mt Vernon, NY for 42 years before moving to LaGrangeville, NY.
Frantz was deeply devoted to family. He enjoyed throwing an annual Christmas party where he played Santa Claus. He worked tirelessly to trace the origin of his family and planned several family reunions.
When he first arrived in the US, he enrolled in Westchester Community College, where he attended classes at night and worked in a jewelry store during the day. After receiving an Associate Degree from Westchester Community, he went to Dental Laboratory School and became a Dental Technician. He worked as a dental technician for about 2 years before opening his own dental laboratory, Prescriptdent Dental Lab in Bronx, NY. During that time, he also attended Brooklyn College, where he earned a Bachelor Degree, graduating with honors. He will later sell the business and retire in 2005.
Frantz was also very handy and helpful. Never one to sit still, he had many hobbies: Travelling, Camping, Astronomy, Ham Radio, Etching, Jewelry making, to name a few.
Frantz Jr. is survived by his wife Marlene, their two children, Regine and Philip and their respective spouses, Norman and Marisol. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Janae, Jeremy, Jilliyan, and Jenesia. His brothers, sisters, and their spouses Gerard, Jacqueline, Marie-Helene, Manfred, Eddy, Janet, Herve, Carla, Marie-Florence, Rony, Judith. and several nieces and nephews. His brothers, Fritz, Edmond, and sister Gyselle predeceased him.
Affectionately known as "Uncle Dady" to his family and "Papa" to his grandchildren, Frantz, Jr. will be greatly missed by all.
