Francis Neil O'Donnell

Francis Neil O'Donnell (Frank), age 89, of Hawthorne,NY, passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2017,  surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born and raised in Bay Ridge , Brooklyn.  He graduated Fort Hamilton, High School and served with honor in the United States Army.  Frank worked for the New York City Department of Sanitation for 34 years and retired as a District Superintendent. Frank was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and a crossword puzzle master.   His thirst for knowledge across all subjects, coupled with his sharp wit made him an interesting conversationalist and often, the life of the party.  Frankie was really one of a kind- he had a great sense of humor which contributed to so many wonderful memories for his family and friends. Frank was also a man of great faith who spent many contemplative hours in prayer and passed along his strong faith to his children. Frank is survived by Maureen, his loving wife of 48 years, his daughters, Siobhan Powell (Randy) of Montvale, NJ and Mary Frances O'Donnell of Hawthorne.  He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Kaitlyn and Ryan and many nieces and nephews. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, NY on Wednesday 10 AM. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY to follow.
