Florence Gnat, 94, of her beloved island of Manhattan, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Montrose, New York.
Born on September 9, 1931 in New York City to Mollie and Alexander Cutman, "Flo" was a middle child. She was predeceased by her older sister, Adelle Barnett and her younger sister, Zena Carron. She met the great love of her life, Emanuel ("Manny") Gnat at the age of 17 and they married about a year later, in January of 1950. They had a spectacular life travelling the globe, visiting countless countries. Only his death three years ago could separate them after 73 years of marriage.
Flo was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, culture and the arts.
Florence is survived by her son Michael Gnat and her daughter Karen Haeseker, their spouses Linda Gnat-Mullin and James Haeseker and three amazing grandsons, Nicholas Gnat, Alexander Haeseker and Aidan Haeseker, as well as an adoring nephew, nieces and their families.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 11am at Ballard-Durand, 2 Maple Avenue in White Plains, New York, followed by the burial at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla. We will be celebrating Flo's life at City Limits Diner in White Plains directly after (arriving at about 1:45pm) and all who wish to are welcome to join.
