Edward Park Hung Lai passed away peacefully on 10 June 2026. He was born 10 August 1931 in Dai Pang, China to Chung Ming Lai and the former King Ng Wong. He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Daisy Sau Fong Lai (formerly Li), his son Chun Kok and wife Pamela, and his son Chun Yip and wife Jennifer. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Sinting Lai. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he was so proud of and derived so much joy from: Jared Lai and wife Lauryn, and great granddaughter Campbell, Simon Lai and wife Yubonnat, and Gayle Fernandez-Lai.

He was the great grandson of General Lai Enjue, a Qing Dynasty naval commander who successfully defended the Chinese coastline at The Battle of Kowloon. For his valiant efforts, General Lai was promoted to Admiral of the Guongdong Navy, a post held until his death in 1848.

Edward moved to Hong Kong as a teenager and graduated from Hong Kong College in 1953. After college, he met the love of his life, Daisy, got married and raised their three children. In 1962, Edward and Daisy made the bold decision to move their young family to the United States. He took over his father's ownership in restaurants and worked tirelessly for many years. After retirement, Edward enjoyed spending time with his family and friends with frequent trips back to Asia along with travels to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, and Australia. He enjoyed nothing more than sharing a good meal, a glass of red wine, and especially dessert in the company of his family.

He was an avid fan of tennis and enjoyed cheering on the NY Knicks. He will rest eternally, and happily, now that his Knicks have won a NBA Championship again. His warm smile and love for his friends and family will be sorely missed
