Doris Clemencia Zaros of Armonk, New York passed away peacefully at 10:23am, Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, New York. Born in Cali, Colombia on August 21,1948, Doris lived in Bogota, Colombia until she married Ernest Leonard Zaros of New York, New York on December 6, 1969. Doris and Leonard had a beautiful marriage of 48 years and 11 months and traveled the world together. They brought 3 children into the world, Wendy, Bryan and Katherine and filled their lives with constant love, support, faith and inspiration. Committed to the raising of her children, Doris focused on maintaining a vibrant and very active household. All three of her children were active musically, artistically, academically and athletically and Doris focused on giving every opportunity to her children. Their home was a favorite place for family parties and gatherings of friends over many years.
Doris was an extraordinary woman of love and generosity. She gave of her whole self to everyone around her, glowing with a radiance of love that inspired all those around her. For over 20 years, she donated her services and food preparing a weekly luncheon for prisoners in a halfway house called Pivot Ministries through St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Darien, CT. In that capacity she was a source of healing and help to men who wished to reclaim their lives for the better. She petitioned courts and judges on behalf of many of these men thus enabling them to return to their families and resume living fulfilled lives.
In November 2008, Doris was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the appendix and endured a courageous battle for 10 years. During this time she remained joyful, hopeful and always grateful. Her bravery inspired many people around her including medical personnel and those also suffering from cancer. In her many visits to the hospital over the years, she continued to encourage fellow patients to remain hopeful and always pointed to her faith in Jesus Christ as the source of her joy and peace.
Doris always lived life to the fullest and was a constant source of joy to all those around her. Everyone who met her loved her immediately as her charisma and passion for life were contagious. She filled everyone around her with so much joy and was welcoming to all, even the stranger. A woman of deep faith, she was a courageous witness of God and her faith illuminated every aspect of her life. Countless people were blessed by her loving presence as she was always ready to give of herself and be a blessing to others.
Doris passed peacefully surrounded by her family. Her last words on this earth were "I. love. you." She will be deeply missed by many. She is survived by her mother Cecilia Larreamendy Montana, her loving husband Ernest Leonard Zaros, her three children Wendy Harrison, Bryan Zaros, Katherine Cozannet, her grandson Adrian Cozannet and her brothers Jaime Reinaldo Montana Larreamendy and Jorge Mauricio Montana Larreamendy.
May she rest in the peace and love she believed in so firmly and may God receive her beautiful loving soul into heaven full of rejoicing.
