Donald Godfrey Buonomo
September 14 th 1934 – January 29, 2022

All people die, but not all people live:  Donald lived life to the fullest and shared his love of life, friendship and family with everyone he met.

Born to Lawrence and Frances Buonomo on September 14, 1934, Donald proudly graduated from Stepinac High School in 1952, Colby College in 1956 and University of Chicago Law School in 1959.  After law school graduation, he hitchhiked through Europe and worked on the Alaskan railroad before settling down to join his father’s law practice.  He was an indomitable lawyer and those who retained him were sure glad he was on their side!

Donald married the love of his life, Mary, in 1961 and they were inseparable for 61 years.  They travelled regularly, enjoying trips to Spain, Australia, Mexico, and the Galapagos.  They collected antiques and researched genealogy during annual summers trips to visit relatives from Buffalo to Philadelphia.  Together, they had four children:  Lawrence (Claudia), Suzanne, Donald (deceased) and Janet (George).   His three grandchildren, Hannah, Theodore and Gregory, were a light in his life and brought him great joy and pride.

If it involved the outdoors, Donald loved it and shared that joy with his family.  A lifetime Boy Scout, he led Armonk Troop 94 and later an Explorer troop. He camped both as scout and leader at Brant Lake and throughout the Adirondacks and Appalachians.   He taught his children his love of skiing and camping and was incredibly pleased that his grandchildren also shared those interests.

Family was all-important to him, and if you were lucky enough to call him friend, he considered you family and would go out of his way to lend a hand, a heart or a shoulder.  He was steadfast, loyal and unwavering in his support.

There was nothing Donald couldn’t do once he set his mind to it:  He fixed cars, plumbing, and skinned knees.  He tried cases, was a member of the Armonk Volunteer Fire Department for several years, loved classical music and sang Broadway show tunes in the car.  Donald skied, camped, canoed, and hiked off the beaten trail.  He loved and worked and played, all with a fierce sense of purpose and joy.  Bringing friends and family together for parties and picnics, going out to dinner and dancing with his wife brought him great happiness.  He was as comfortable in his tuxedo as he was in his lederhosen.

Donald passed peacefully in his sleep on January 29 th at 87 years old after a life well lived.

Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, Feb.4,2022 from 2-4 PM for immediate family members only and from 6-8 PM for the public. Graveside Services, Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. on Saturday 10 AM.   (Facial Masks are required by all who attend)
