Dominick Anthony Plati, age 87, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Friday, October 19, 2018 in Scarsdale, N.Y.
He was born March 10, 1931 at home in New Rochelle, N.Y. He graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1949 and from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 1953. An accomplished golfer in his youth, he was a member of both his high school and collegiate teams.
He worked in several professions in his adult life, ranging from serving as secretary in New Rochelle government to positions as a director of finance and administration, insurance agent, comptroller and accountant. Most of his life was spent living in Westchester County (N.Y.), with a seven-year period in Denver and Aurora, Colo. (1965-72).
He was very active within the Catholic Church, serving as a lector for over 50 years and as a Eucharistic minister at his local parish, Sacred Heart. He was an officer with the Westchester chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, most notably of the New York Yankees (his sons always brag about how he scored tickets to Game 6 of the 1977 World Series), enjoyed music - particularly opera - and enjoyed traveling and cruises.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Angela Marie Rita Scorrano Plati, in 1995; his parents, Pietro Plati, who emigrated from Fabrizia, Calabria (Italy), and Marianna Mamone Plati; and two sisters, Catherine and Gilda. He is survived by two sons, David of Superior, Colo., and Mark of New York City; his daughter-in-law, Maryann; five grandchildren, Alice, Max, Claire, Camille and Nico; two brothers, Peter and Anthony; and six nieces and six nephews.
He will undergo cremation and eventually be interred with his wife at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colo. A memorial mass and service is set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hartsdale, N.Y. A private reception for family and friends will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to fight childhood cancer can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
