Diane M. Hazelton

The family of Diane Mead Hazelton is deeply saddened to announce her unexpected passing on August 6, 2026. She was 71 years old, of Stamford, Connecticut, formerly of Millwood, New York.

Diane was born on March 8, 1955, in Yonkers, New York, to Margaret and George Homer Mead. On October 13, 1984, she married Steve Hazelton, with whom she shared 41 years.

She devoted 49 years of her career to Westchester ARC, in service of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It was work that suited her, because caring for others was simply who she was.

Diane never met a stranger. She loved to talk, loved meeting new people, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was selfless to her core, always putting others before herself, and she had a gift for finding the best in everyone she met. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Hazelton; her son, Kevin Hazelton, and his wife, Stephanie Mondragon Hazelton; her daughter, Courtney Hazelton; her granddaughters, Rowan and Keira Hazelton, daughters of Kevin and Stephanie; her brothers Brian Mead and his wife, Cathy, Timothy Mead and his wife, Patti, and Father Gary Mead; her sister, Karen Jordan, and her husband, Christopher; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and George Mead.

A wake will be held on Tuesday, August 11, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, New York. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church, 1394 Pleasantville Road, Briarcliff Manor, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Rosary Hill Home, 600 Linda Avenue, Hawthorne, New York 10532, where the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne provide free care to those with incurable cancer.
