Delfia Bertha Gonzalez, long-time resident of White Plains, NY, died on Sunday June 30th. She was born in Jauja, Peru, and immigrated to the United States at the young age of 23 as an au pair. She quickly became fluent in English and later pridefully became an American citizen, exercising her right to vote in every election and embracing the American culture as much as her own. During this time, she worked hard to bring two of her sisters, their families, and others to this country. Her initial residence was New York City, until she eventually made White Plains her permanent home for the next 62 years.
Delfia's family saw her as a warrior and pioneer, as someone who established family on both coasts of the United States. Delfia was generous, constantly sharing her hard- earned wealth, knowledge, and thirst for adventure with friends and family alike. She was a devoted single mother who didn't allow anything to get in her way to secure her dream of buying a house for her and her only daughter. This dream was made possible while being employed at Rodman Nursing Home, then later Nathan Miller Center for Nursing Care as a Dietary Manager, for at least 30 years.
Delfia is lovingly remembered by her surviving daughter, LuzMarina Ramirez, and her spouse, Alvaro Ramirez. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alvaro V. (& Alexis), John, Stacey, and Brittany Ramirez, and two great- grandchildren. Her family will most remember her undying faith and her love for gardening.
