In Loving Memory of Deborah "Deb" Deveaux-Smith
Deborah "Deb" Deveaux-Smith was born on July 24, 1948, at Harlem Hospital to Alma and Clarence DeVeaux. She was raised in the Fairgrounds section of Greenburgh, New York, where she attended Woodlands High School.
At the age of 10, Deb became a member of Union Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong commitment to her faith and church community. Throughout the years, she served in several ministries, including as a Trustee and President of the Trustees in 2013. She participated in Union Cares, the New Members Ministry, and the Food Service Ministry. She also served as a Board Member of the Good for Girls Ministry and WINGS (Women in God's Service) Ministry. Deb created the Health and Fitness Ministry and served in the Domestic Violence Ministry. She also served as the church's Wedding Coordinator.
Deb continued her education at Marymount College, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She later earned a Master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University. Deb dedicated 30 years of service to Westchester County, working as a social worker in the Child Protective Services Department and later as a manager. Throughout her career, she remained committed to serving children and families in her community.
Deb enjoyed an active and social life. She was a member of a book club and theater club and enjoyed health and fitness activities and tennis. She also loved traveling, attending jazz concerts, spending time with family and friends, and participating in activities that kept her active and connected to others.
In 1986, Deb met the love of her life Ronald Smith. They married on October 10, 1990, and shared many years together. They enjoyed traveling, attending jazz concerts, and spending time together.
Family was especially important to Deb. She was a devoted wife and took great pride in her grandchildren. She cherished the time she spent with her daughter, Monia, and her grandchildren, Bria and Brandon.
Deb was known by her family and friends for her kindness, generosity, compassion, and willingness to help others. Through her family, faith, career, friendships, and service to her community, she touched many lives and made a lasting impact on those around her.
Deborah "Deb" Deveaux-Smith leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Ronald Smith; her daughter, Monia Smith; her granddaughter, Bria Kingwood (Vinchelle Vesher-Kingwood); and her grandson, Brandon Kingwood.
She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Patricia Smith, Linda Vogt (Terry Vogt), and Mary Smith; her cousins, Patricia Blackwell, Mary Marquis, Charles Hipp, Barbara Carelock (Larry White), Juanita Hartwell, Lawrence Robinson, and Delores Powell; as well as extended family, church family, and lifelong friends.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Clarence DeVeaux, her father-in-law, Benjamin Smith, and brother-in-law, Benjamin Smith Jr(Victoria Smith)
Deborah "Deb" Deveaux-Smith will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her faith, her career, and her community. Her life was marked by service, commitment, compassion, and love for the people around her.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
