Christopher Comfort died unexpectedly and suddenly on September 16, 2026. He is survived by his wife Ivy Ozer, his children Ashley, Angela, and Jonathon Comfort, his stepchildren Emily and Sam Zuckerman, and his grandson Sebastian, almost 5 years old, son of his daughter Ashley. Above all, he loved his wife, all his children, and his grandson (who he doted upon). He was also survived by his loving siblings Erin Dobrinski (Tom), Sean Comfort (Shelley), Maureen Metzger (Michael), and Kathleen Treichel (Del). He was 70 years old, and was taken from us too soon. We will miss him terribly.

Christopher was a brilliant doctor, who initially had a private practice serving the underserved surrounding Bronx community and later dedicated his life to end of life care. He was former President and CEO, COO, and medical director of Calvary Hospital in the Bronx for almost 25 years, changing the landscape of palliative care and the scope of hospice care, prior to his retirement in 2024. He loved classical music, esoteric history, opera, and the outdoors. He was an exceptional physician and intellect, a caring and devoted husband, and a steady presence for all of his children. During his life he had fun playing the piano and singing opera, reading about world-changing historical figures, running marathons and completing triathlons. He loved to bake bread, eat ice cream for breakfast with his grandson, and buy things on EBay - including a house and cars. Christopher also loved traveling the world with his wife, hiking, and being in nature. He was a kind and caring person who will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him

The funeral will be held on Saturday, 9/26/2026 from 12-4pm. We will have a service at 3pm to highlight how deeply he touched everyone's life.

The family kindly requests that you do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to one of the charities below. Each charity has been selected to represent a facet of the essence of the spirit of Dr. Christopher Comfort.
