Charles Edward Reid 89, formerly of Bronx, N.Y. and most recently of Clinton, CT passed from this world accepting and peacefully on December 30, 2020. Born in 1931, one of 7 children on Tryon Ave in the Norwood section of the Bronx, NY to Charles E. Reid and Beatrice (Bea) Buechner. He attended Dewitt Clinton High School, Class of ’49. Drafted into the US Army for service in Korea. A combat veteran who served on several major battles, earning a field commission to Sergeant at the age of 20 and leading his platoon until his honorable discharge in 1953. Returning to work for C. Edward Reid Construction until taking a position in 1973 with the Kaufman Organization and rising to Executive Director of Operations until his retirement at 84 in 2015. An avid skier from 1940’s until he was 83, he skied all of the northeast, having the first ticket sold on both Whiteface Mountain and Catamount NY. Also an avid lifelong sailor giving much care to his Catalina 30, the Arline J.
He is survived by his loving wife Arline of 51 years, two sons, Charles and Robert , two daughter Diane and Eileen and predeceased by his loving son Billy.
He was the most beloved Grampa to his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and a loved and respected uncle too many nieces and nephews.
In addition he is survived by his brother Donald, sisters Nancy and Bonnie. Predeceased by siblings Betty, Dick and Joanie.
Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday, 2-6 PM, where Religious Services will take place at 5 PM. Final Services on Monday, 10 AM at Hawthorne Funeral Home to be followed by Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. at 11:30 AM, With Full Military Honors.
