Catherine Long

Catherine C. Long passed away on August 31, 2022 peacefully in her sleep at home in Hawthorne, NY. Born and raised in Hawthorne, Cathy lived a full and healthy life of 95 years. She graduated from Briarcliff High School and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, husband Albert E. Long, who predeceased her in 1990. Cathy worked at Hawthorne Water District for more than 20 years and then in retirement volunteered for many years at Historic Hudson Valley, including Kykuit Rockefeller Estate, Philipsburg Manor and The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze.

Cathy was an avid gardener and enjoyed bowling with her friends. She loved traveling especially on cruises and up to Cape Cod. She spent her free time knitting and crocheting as well as doing crossword and other puzzles. Cathy was very proud of her country and loved watching fireworks, particularly celebrating national holidays. She was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Seniors. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her loving daughters Eileen (Bob) Davis and Marlene (Frank) Peterson, grandchildren Kristen (John) Connolly, Stephan (Marie) Davis, Frank (April) Peterson III, Heather (Rob) Mauck and Lynsey (Chris) Suarez and great-grandchildren Kevin and Dana Connolly, Jack, Madelyn and Kate Davis, Bryce and Brooks Peterson, Oliver Mauck, and Brandon and Ryan Suarez. Cathy was one of eleven children born to Canio and Mary Civita. She is survived by siblings George (Julianne) Civita, Honore (Neil) LaRosa and Ann Frank. Predeceased by siblings Vito (Florence) Civita, Grace (Frank) Meehan, Mike (Peggy) Civita, Esther (Tom) Riley, Dora (Peter) Tucci, Anita (Vincent) Mareno and Thomas (Lynn) Civita as well as countless nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loving caregiver Barbara.

Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 4,2022 from 3-7 PM. Funeral Mass, Holy Rosary Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Monday, 10 AM.
