Carmela Pollizzi

Carmela Pollizzi, a long time resident of Brooklyn, New York, passed away very peacefully at her home on May 1st, 2025, in the loving care of her daughter, Angela, and devoted caretaker, Myrna.

Carmela was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 4th, 1929 to her parents Antonio and Catherine Iannone. Carmela was married to the late Pasquale Pollizzi on May 29th, 1946. They spent 60 years happily married together, raising their three children in their Brooklyn home in Mill Basin.

Together with her beloved husband, Pasquale, she poured love and care into their home, creating not just a house, but a haven filled with laughter, warmth, and countless cherished memories. She found joy in the simple pleasures - gathering around the table for card games, swimming in the ocean with loved ones in Punta Gorda, Brooklyn, and Wildwood, and upholding treasured traditions like attending the Belmont Stakes each year. She rang in her 95th birthday surrounded by family, cheering on the 150th Kentucky Derby in true style, fascinators on, laughter flowing, and grateful for another wonderful year of life and love. Her home and her heart were always open, and she lived each day with grace and generosity. She had a deep and abiding belief in God that sustained her throughout her life.

Carmela is survived by her children, Patrick, Anthony, and Angela, and their spouses, Sandi, Teresa, and Gerard. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tiffany, Jaclyn, Alyssa, Anthony, Andrew, Caroline, Christopher, and Stephen, and her great-grandchildren Nicholas, Gabriella, and Finn, and her great-great granddaughter, Ameenah, and many nieces and nephews.

As mom always said "make your bed everyday if you want to change the world."

The family will gather to remember and honor her life on Friday May 9th, 2025 at 10am at Ballard and Durand Funeral Home. Catholic mass will be held at noon at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel. Entombment will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.
