Barbara (Herman) Ames

Barbara Ames, born to William and Minnie Herman on August 17, 1931, died peacefully on January 2, 2023. She was 91 and predeceased by her parents and her older brother, Robert Herman.

Barbara is remembered by her dearest family and friends as a bright light in their lives. She was smart, funny, resourceful, and clever. She was compassionate, always supportive to those who needed comfort. She appreciated what life offered her, even in rocky times.

Barbara was curious about the world around her, a humanitarian who cared deeply about the world and all of its peoples. She viewed the arts, literature, and learning from history as crucial parts of those efforts. She was a lifelong student, taking college classes well into her '80s. She adored small children, which led to her career teaching nursery school, Kindergarten, and first grade. She also supervised student teachers at Pace University as an adjunct professor for several years. Her greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 70 years, Irving Ames, her daughters Lisa and Jodi, her son-in-law, Alan, her grandchildren Max, Leon, Jessica, Adam, and Thomas (and their spouses/significant others), and her great-grandchildren, Henry and Marcus.
