Arlene Edelson, age 97, passed away on January 26, 2023. Arlene was born January 5, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio to Herman and Ida Spivack. Arlene married Howard Edelson of Youngstown, Ohio on March 16, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, and they moved to Hartsdale, NY in 1960. Arlene was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sister, Sherrie Epstein; two children, Janet Andresen, and Bill Edelson; five grandchildren, Kristen Andresen, Katy Campbell, Jeremy Andresen, Steven Edelson and Mark Edelson; and five great-grandchildren, David Campbell, William Campbell, Peter Edelson, Emilia Edelson, and Chiara Edelson.

While she and Howard were raising their two children, Arlene was going to night school at Hunter College, and ultimately obtained two Masters Degrees, one in English, and one in Library Science. She worked at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY, first as an adjunct instructor in English, and later as an Acquisitions Librarian for many years until her retirement.

Outside of work, Arlene was a lifelong reader, and belonged to a book club for over forty years, and was still driving to those meetings until age 93. She also enjoyed writing, and wrote many humorous vignettes about her childhood in Cleveland, Ohio and about her grandchildren.

Services for Arlene Edelson will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Hawthorne Funeral Home with Rabbi Michael Goldman officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Gardens Cemetery at 11:15 AM in Valhalla, New York.
