Anthony Louis Castaldo, 80, of Hawthorne, New York, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026. Born on March 4, 1945, in Mount Vernon, New York, Anthony lived a life marked by service, love, and an enduring passion for the things he held dear.
Anthony proudly served his country as a Corpsman with the Marines during the Vietnam War. His time in the military exemplified his courage and dedication to helping others, a trait that would define him throughout his life. After returning home, Anthony continued his commitment to service as a firefighter in Mount Vernon.
In 1967, Anthony married the love of his life, Francine, and together they built a warm and welcoming home centered on family. They were devoted parents to their daughters, Lori and Michele, and were fondly known as faithful sideline supporters and dedicated volunteers. When Lori married Eric Schulze and Michele married Tom Miller, Anthony and Francine embraced them as sons. They took great pride in their role as grandparents to Emma Schulze, Elisabeth Schulze, and Ryan Miller. Anthony and Francine shared a remarkable partnership, remaining devoted to one another until her passing in 2004. Anthony was also predeceased by his parents, Angelo and Anna Castaldo.
Anthony's passions brought joy not only to himself but also to those around him. A talented baseball player in his youth and an avid New York Yankees fan throughout his life, he shared his love of the game with family and friends. He found beauty in opera music and serenity in fishing trips. In the kitchen, Anthony's skills as a cook and baker were unmatched. Anthony and Fran opened their home to family and friends every Friday for homemade pizza.
Known for his big heart and generous spirit, Anthony had an uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His humor brightened even the darkest days, and his loving personality left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. As a supportive father and grandfather, he provided unwavering encouragement and love to his family.
Anthony will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May memories of his kindness, laughter, and devotion bring comfort to those who mourn his loss.
