Angelina Torrisi, Matriarch of a New York Family, Dies at 105

Angelina Torrisi, who lived her life in service to others, died on January 1, 2026 at her home in Hastings-On-Hudson surrounded by love. She was 105.

Her remarkable lifespan and passing conclude a generation within her family, whose foundation she built through faith, generosity and resilience.

Known to her extensive family as Angie or Granny Annie, she was born Angelina DeVito on October 29, 1920, in Manhattan. She was one of seven children raised by Italian immigrant parents in a single[1]bedroom tenement apartment, an experience that established an abiding devotion to family. Within this large circle, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and cousin, whose friendships, particularly with her siblings, remained central.

Angie married Richard Torrisi and together they raised three children. When her husband suffered a heart attack, she demonstrated her characteristic indomitable spirit and pragmatism by returning to the workforce as an administrative assistant at Columbia Presbyterian center.

Angie maintained a legendary energy and was always on the move. Whether it was driving her grandchildren to appointments, raking leaves, taking great pleasure in the hunt for a bargain., sewing, washing windows, .. always for her loved ones. She was a sanctuary for many people. Angie often said nothing, which in most instances, wisely, said everything.

Her deepest expression of love, however, was cooking and baking. Her kitchen table was the family's center, and her cooking was less a hobby and more her love language. Her favorite moments were spent surrounded by her family, friends and the good food she prepared.

Although family was most important to her, after God, her personal warmth was recognized early; she was voted "Most Jolly" in her grade school yearbook, a temperament sustained throughout her life. She also enjoyed her leisure time, often found having 'coffee' with relatives. Later in life, she found tremendous friendship and joyful camaraderie with her amazing neighbors in Hastings Gardens. What a blessing to have those friends in her life.

A devout Roman Catholic, she prayed daily and lived a life guided by the principles of the Gospel, which she credited for her longevity and strength.

Angie was predeceased by her husband, Richard; all six of her siblings; and her grandson, John.

She is survived by her three children: Richard Torrisi & his partner, Diane LaFarga; Edward Torrisi and his wife, Laura; and daughter Joanne Ricciardi and her husband, Michael. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, as well as a large network of cousins, nieces, nephews and neighbors who relied on her constant presence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Innocence Church in Pleasantville, NY on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at 10:30 am.

The family asks that those wishing to honor Angie to do so by making a dedicated effort to spend time loving and enjoying their family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN.

As we grieve the loss of Angie, we also celebrate the beautiful life she led and the love she gave. May she rest in peace, embracing eternally the love and light she brought to the world.
